Buying Lego in Ireland

World of Wonder closing down sale

Just a heads up that some of the Byrne's World of Wonder stores are closing down and the toys are half price. The two stores in Newbridge and Naas are among the casualties. I assume Lego is 50% off. Not sure what would be left at this stage and as the stores aren't open late I probably won't be able to check them out.

New Toy Story sets in Argos?

I see the new Toy Story sets are listed on the Argos website. Pity they weren't available a few days earlier. While I plan on getting these sets I'll await the Lego official prices and Smyths pricings before taking the plunge as Argos is traditionally dearer.

Lego selling fast this year?

Well, good news for those of us who want to see Lego stay in business - it looks like here in Ireland at least, it is flying off the shelves despite the crisis.

At my local Art & Hobby back in early Autumn they had floor to ceiling Lego stocked across several feet of shelves, and more up high above the shop counter. Yesterday they had a grand total of 5 Family Home sets (they started with a load - maybe a dozen), a handful of train track sets, one or two Duplo sets, about 2 large Racers sets, and that was it. Very impressive!

Imperial Flagship

Imperial Flagship now listed at Lego S@H (Under Pirates theme). Available 29th January and €150 for Ireland (same price as Germany).

Set 7036 (dwarves' mine) back in Smyths

Just a heads up that the Dwarves' mine castle set (7036) is back on the shelves in Smyths (Naas) for anyone interested in it. It seems to be the only set resurrected from the store rooms for the Christmas rush. I was in Smyths yesterday and Lego seems to be flying off the shelves, especially agents and city. Not a sponge bob set in sight either.

Where have all the NXT boxes gone?

Until a few weeks ago several Smyths shops still had the Mindstorms NXT box with the 'Out now!' banner on their top shelf. All of a sudden they're all gone and have been replaced by NXT 2.0. Staff told me they reduced the price from €239 to €200 and sold them all but I find that hard to believe.
After three years of not selling at €239 I can't believe they've all sold in a few days for €200. I seriously wonder if any Mindstorms NXT has been sold in Ireland since the introduction...

Exclusive Tesco Millineum Falcon

Is this actually exclusive to Tesco?

Pirate Advent Calendar may be coming to Smyths...

I sent in an email query to Smyths about the pirate advent calendar (with the set number included) and was told at first that they were not going to be stocking it. However, a week or two later I received a response that suggested they will be stocking it (apparently the person I corresponded with asked the head buyer).

Just a heads-up for anyone who hasn't managed to get one yet and is intending to. (I bought three - two on behalf of family members - from Germany on ebay for €18 each incl. postage).

Another Mirror Promotion to start this October bank holiday weekend?

I see reports on Eurobricks that another Mirror Lego promotion starts this weekend. This time around its 12 sets, half of which are city sets. The tractor on Monday next looks particularly good. I'm assuming that the promotion will operate here also although I don't know yet how many tokens will be required for any mail in. This time last year I availed of the mail-in option while also picking up other sets along the way.
