Buying Lego in Ireland

Buyer Beware

Earlier in the week i picked up a copy of

Barn & Farm Animals
60346-1: Barn & Farm Animals (2022) BricksetRebrickableBrickLinkBrick Owl

in smyths blancharstown for the animals as it's currently on sale. when i opened it i noticed loose lego in the box and at first figured one of the bags did not seal properly, i quickly noticed that there was a lack of animals and sure enough all the animals had been taken, the box resealed and returned to smyths. this was not an error at factory, someone bought the set, opened the box carefully, grabbed what they wanted and returned it.

so when buying sets for valuable parts it looks like there's at least one [insert suitable name here] out there buying sets and returning them sans the parts afols are probably buying the set for.

smyths did allow me to swap the set and check in store that the new one was all there.

Argos closing down

Argos are to close all its Irish stores on 24th June and as they say it’s an ill wind that doesn’t blow someone good luck so expect a big closing down sale.

That being said obviously it impacts people s jobs which is sad and it gives smyths more power in the toy market in Ireland

GWP Threshold

Hi,
I was just wondering does anybody else think that the thresholds for GWP are getting consistently higher. 250 euro spend to get 40583 Houses of the World (348 pieces) seems high to me. I know you are also getting the lunar add on pack 40605 and the lunar rabbit 40575 at the same time but 250 is a lot. I'm sure they are probably trying to encourage us to buy the new jazz club 10312. I am still not sure about that one. The new a-frame cabin 21338 coming in February kind of grabs me more. Also I thought there was supposed to be a van gift for purchasing the modular in February. At this rate they will be asking for more that 250 euro for a GWP soon.

Mosaic maker set

I have noticed that the mosaic maker set

Personalised Mosaic Portrait
40179-1: Personalised Mosaic Portrait (2016) BricksetRebrickableBrickLinkBrick Owl
is available on ls@h for 99.99 euro. Not bad for 4501 1x1 plates (900 of both greys, white, black and yellow) including a 48x48 baseplate.

Bricklink Crowd funding - Round 3 - Save the date Tuesday 17th May - 6pm Irish time

Next round of crowdfunding opens at 6pm our time next Tuesday 17th.

https://www.bricklink.com/v3/designer-program/introducing.page

The projects up for grabs if they reach the requisite numbers are:

Brickwest Studios €289.99
1950s diner €109.99
Studgate Train Station €339.99
Winter Chalet €169.99
Working waterfall €189.99
Space troopers €169.99
Mountain View observatory €269.99
Steam powered science €249.99
Modular construction site €269.99

I can't help but think some of these have been priced out of the market for what you get.

The winter chalet seems decent value to me and the diner might gather support but my favourites, the brickwest studios and the train station, are higher priced than I expected

1 x 1 plates

Hey

I recall someone looking for yellow 1x1 plates around lugbulk but I can’t remember who.

They are now on PAB in Sheffield and will probably pop up in other cities also.

Bricklink issues

I see that there is a notice on the main bricklink page this morning saying that there has been a cyber incident with one of its partners. Certain transactions are not currently possible, namely all non-EU to EU sales and non-UK to UK. Intra-EU are not mentioned as impacted. Given the nature of the transactions it might be tax related.

[Edit: they advise that an update will be shared as soon as possible and no later than the 16th March ... not a fix in an hour then]

Bricks and Pieces changes

From LAN. As some of you may have noticed Bricks and Pieces is not available today.

"Today is a major update in the PaB Merger experience

March 11th: Around 2pm CST paid B&P will be closed down in all markets. One of the learnings from the first 5 countries was that there did need to be a longer window between closing B&P and merging experiences in order to prevent orders from being negatively impacted.

March 16th: The merged experience will go-live in the remaining countries.

Novelty Elements: There are still internal discussions about whether novelty elements should be immediately made available on set launch day or not. As the conversation is still happening the PaB team will error on the side of caution and 2022 novelty elements will be removed from the merged PaB experience.
